I lead interactive workshops on composing and songwriting for K-12 students. I also present my work to college students and general audiences.
Composing workshop at Penny Lazarus Piano Studio
Here are samples of programs I’ve presented:
- Elementary school students: workshop on turning speech into song; activities and games about melodies based on scales
- Middle school choir members: workshop on improvising two-part vocal music
- High school students: presentation of Victory at Arnot, a piece about creative problem solving and non-violence, followed by student reflection and discussion how the story relates to modern times
- General audiences: presentation on how I compose, from drafts to final product; a talk on collaboration between composer and performers
