The Darkling Thrush (text: Thomas Hardy) for SSAATTBB or SATB choir, 6’00” (2012). Commissioned by San Francisco Choral Artists.

This setting presents the poem as is, then revisits the text from the point of view of the bird, incorporating melodies based on field recordings of thrushes. Details


Eyes Open (text: Kate Chopin and Eleanor Aversa) for SATB choir, 3’00” (2008)

First Prize Winner, 2009 San Francisco Choral Artists New Voices Competition; premiere by SFCA.

Based on a line from the novel The Awakening, cut into syllables and looped in the manner of electronic music. As the piece progresses, these fragments coalesce until suddenly the entire message becomes clear. Details
